Basic Scuba Diving Equipment
Hire OR Buy
Most of the key diving components can be hired rather than purchased when you are starting out. There are plenty of places which hire scuba dive gear. This will give you time to decide if you like Scuba Diving or not, without having invested money in some dive gear that you now need to pack away with the golf clubs you don't use.
Make sure that the equipment that you rent or hire is in great shape. Don't trust your life to substandard equipment. Hiring dive equipment gives you the opportunity to try out a few different brands before purchasing. There are so many different brands on the market, for each of the dive components you will find there are some which have the newest technology, some which are budget conscious, and others which are a good all rounder. By trying out different brands you can work out what is going to suit you best.
I would suggest that you can be budget conscious on most areas of your dive gear (if you have to be), but I wouldn't skimp on the Scuba Regulators, after all they keep you breathing underwater.
